Shanghai Science Festival, launched in 1991, is the first in China and the second in the world of its kind to be sponsored by the government. It is held in the third week in May every year with the main venue located at Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
Shanghai Science Festival is committed to spreading scientific knowledge and scientific thoughts, advocating scientific spirits and scientific methods, improving general public’s scientific attainments and creating a good social atmosphere for people to love science and innovation. It serves as an announcement for innovation achievements, an exhibition for hi-tech products, a festival for scientists and engineers, and a science carnival for the general public.
Shanghai Science Festival aims to produce a world class science festival with global influence. It acts in line with the city’s effort to become a technology innovation center with global influence and in response to the city’s transformation to the innovation-driven development mode. It is both an urban event to demonstrate Shanghai’s capabilities in technology innovation in an all-round way and another important brand-building activity after Shanghai Tourism Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival and Shanghai International Festival of Arts.
The organizational structure of Shanghai Science Festival is composed of three parts: the Organizing Committee of Shanghai Science Festival, the Office of the Organizing Committee of Shanghai Science Festival, and the Operating Agency of Shanghai Science Festival.
